Track - Boys Tie for First, Girls 3rd at Grafton

The Preston boys finished tied for first with Fairmont Senior in a ten team meet at Grafton High School. Competing alongside the Knights and Polar Bears were teams from Braxton County, Buckhannon Upshur, East Fairmont, Grafton, Liberty, Lincoln, Philip Barbour, and University. Highlights for the boys include the following:

• Logan Forbes finishing second in the 110 High Hurdles (16.62) and 4th in the 300 Hurdles (43.65)
• Derek DeWitt (11.74) and Nash Thomas (11.75) going 2 – 3 in the 100
• Mickey Wilson (4:57.14) and Clint Bowman (4:58.74) breaking 5 minutes in 1600 for the first time
• Miles Helmick finishing 4th in the 400 (54.31)
• Tyler Maust finishing 2nd in the 200 (23.97)
• The shuttle hurdle team of Stump, Johnson, Silcott, and Forbes winning the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (1:05.52)
NOTE: All times are hand-timed.

The girls team finished 3rd overall out of ten teams. Highlights for the girls include the following performances:

• Paula Renteria (5’ 2”), Heather Koch (5’), and Hannah Sickles (4’ 10”) went 2 – 5 – 6 in the high jump
• The girls 4 x 800 team of Verbonitz, Shaffer, Myers, and Ridenour finished 2nd in the 4 x 800 relay (10:49.44)
• Andrea Jones finishing 4th in the 300 Hurdles (51.71)
• Laura Shaffer finishing 5th in the 800 (2:35.06)
• Karli Ridenour (12:33.87) and Ashley Shultz (12:35.37) finishing 4th and 5th in the 3200
• The shuttle hurdle team of Koch, Sickles, Renteria, and Jones finishing 2nd in 1:13.25
• Jennifer Ullman finishing 4th in the shot put (29’ 2”) and 3rd in the discus (103’ 7”)

Preston will next compete at the Pioneer Relays at Glenville State College on Saturday, April 10th.
