Preston lost in the semi-finals of the section 2 tournament to Fairmont Senior 53-51. The Polar Bears grabbed their own miss shot and put it back in as time expired for the win. In a game where neither team could gain control or sustain any momentum for long periods of time, it was an unfortunate bounce off the rim for the Knights on the games final play that decided the outcome. Preston started out of the gates slow as they trailed by five at the end of one. PHS regrouped in the second defensively and went into the break up by two. The third quarter saw each team take the lead from each other continuously. A last second steal and layup by Michele Groves would give the Knights a one point lead going into the final period of play. The final quarter saw each team trade baskets throughout to set up the final frantic minutes of the game. With two minutes left in the game a foul was called on a Polar Bear player and everyone thought that was her fifth foul. However, the home book only had her down for four fouls so she was allowed to stay in the contest. With 54 seconds remaining Preston's Mackenzie Martin received her fifth foul against that very player that should have been out for the Polar Bears. With the score tied in the final few seconds the Polar Bears went on the offensive. Their first shot was a miss and was rebounded by the Knights' Ashly Plum who was quickly tied up for a jump ball. The arrow favored the Bears. The next Polar Bears shot was also missed and there was a scramble as a diving Kayla Boggs was able to get the rebound for the Knights but her momentum to get the ball took her out of bounds which setup the final five seconds. It was a great effort by the Preston squad as they fought to the end and should be commended for a game well played. Mackenzie Martin led the Knights with yet another double-double as she recorded 17 pts., 11 rebounds, and five blocks. Ashley Shrout scored double digits with 10 points. Michele Groves added nine points, five rebounds, and three steals. Kayla Boggs completed a successful freshman season with five points and five rebounds. Ashden Shaffer was spectacular off the bench with four points. Heather Clark who was battling a sinus infection contributed three points and five rebounds. Ashly Plum who was playing a little injured hit a three pointer for her points. Hannah Bolyard was also solid in the game with three assists and two boards. The Knights end their season with a 12-9 record.
